Summer Guatemala Mission Trip

IMG_20150530_092153

During the week of May 28th to June 2nd, Silverdale students Allison, Alexander, and Aiden from the Interact Club and Spanish Dual Enrollment classes went on a mission trip to Cubulco, Guatemala with Spanish teacher Nikki Bautista and Allison’s father, Jared Barlew. The purpose of the trip, sponsored by the Chattanooga Rotary Club and arranged through AMG International, was to provide portable water filters to rural families. The group trekked through the jungle, rivers and mountains to deliver and set up water filters for families who have no access to clean water. Another project was to install a permanent water filter for the Señorita Elena Hospital in Cubulco. The hospital serves a population of 65,000 people many of them indigenous, offering medical, dental and nutritional support to many without access to private or governmental health services. While it was a blessing for this team to have the opportunity to meet the needs of so many with clean water, it was much more of a miracle for them to be able to communicate the good news of Living Water through handing out tracts and sharing gospel on Radio Genesis in English, Spanish and Achi (the indigenous language). Only God knows what impact this team has made for eternity.

DIS_11.16_Kids_Thanksgiving_Image3_636x424 REV

Do you have a passion for photography and find yourself at all kinds of events, camera in-hand? If so, we need your help!

With so many events happening all of the time here at Silverdale, our desire is to capture as much as possible in order to preserve the history we're making here every day. Between our three yearbooks, social media, and our website, just to name a few, there is a constant need for these images. We need parents who are free both during and after school hours, willing to shoot everything from field trips to sporting events to special events like Donuts for Dads, and much more. If this sounds like something you're interested in, please contact our Director of Communications, Daniel Ashworth, by email for more information and to discuss what options might work best for you. We hope you'll consider joining forces with other parents here in helping to preserve the precious memories of our students.
