Personalized Portraits for The Memory Project

sba_1286

Our high school art students received individual photographs of children in Colombia and have been working on personalized portraits over the last few weeks a part of The Memory Project. Now that they're done, these portraits will be hand-delivered to the children in time for Christmas, many of whom will have never seen a picture of themselves before this piece of art is in their hands. What a wonderful, personal touch!

From the Head of School

HansardProfile Family and Friends of the Academy: Do you have an old truck that you would like to donate to Silverdale Baptist Academy?  You would be helping us out greatly, and you can count the donation as a tax deduction for your home or business. We currently have a truck that was donated over 10 years ago and while we have taken great care of it, it is simply worn out.  We can no longer use it anywhere other than our campus.  We use this truck daily. Please contact Chris Neighbors at 892-2319 extension 2223 or by email if you would like to contribute.  We appreciate how supportive our families continue to be. Blessings, Becky Hansard Head of School

What’s New With Outdoor Education

Can Forest Fires Be Good? by Al Rogers
I know it has been tough the last few days getting outside due to the air quality from the forest fires and dust from the lack of rain.  Fire, however, is a great discussion topic concerning the outdoors.  Rain cannot occur without particulates in the air.  The particulates come from volcanoes and forest fires.  Water cannot condense into liquid form unless it has something to "cling" to, hence the need for the particulates in the air from forest fires.  I believe we have enough particulates now, so let's pray for rain! Another cool thing about forest fires has to do with the lodgepole pine tree (found in our western states).  When these pine trees grow, their cones are tightly sealed.   A layer of resin and woody tissue sticks the cones' scales together.  The seeds are locked in tight, and the cones can't open unless they're exposed to very high temperatures - the type of temperatures that forest forest provide! Isn't it cool how God has designed this beautiful planet?!
