Seahawks Attend UTC Tri-State Honor Band

SBA_0582_1 Junior Wesley Corwine on clarinet, and Freshman Colby Werner on percussion, were nominated and attended this past weekend's Tri-State Honor Band at the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga, where they participated in the Blue Band. The two auditioned and then spent most of Friday and Saturday in intense rehearsals leading up to the Saturday evening performance. Congratulations to Wesley and Colby, and to Silverdale band director Mr. Stephen Humphries for his work with all of our musicians!

Student-Named Golf Cart Contest

SBA_0553Mr. Sterchi's campus golf cart naming contest back in the fall brought out tons of clever and unique names for the newest in the fleet of vehicles here at Silverdale, but one stood out among all the rest in the student voting. "Sgt. Seahawk" was the winning name, submitted by 5th grader Davis Wells, pictured here on the left. His classmates and friends helped push the voting over the top, including (L-R) Ryan Ray, Ryland Cobb, and Kyle Shoemaker (standing). Congratulations to Davis, welcome Sgt. Seahawk, and thank you again to everyone who donated towards the purchase of this much-needed campus transportation!

Guatemala Adventure

Slide1 Interact Sponsored Mission Trip: Partnering with AMG International, our Interact Club will be sponsoring a return trip to Cubulco, Guatemala from June 11-18th, 2016. We invite all high school students (and families) to participate in the distribution of water filters to needy families and also in helping in the construction of a new hospital. The all-inclusive cost is $1,612 for each team member. This takes care of airfare and all travel and food costs. Knowledge of Spanish is helpful, but not required. Please contact Mrs. Nikki Bautista by email if you are interested. NOTE: A $100.00 non-refundable down payment is required by March 1, 2016.

ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

  • MANDATORY PARENT MEETING: Topic - Your Child’s Online Safety Tuesday, March 1st @ 6:30 PM in the Sanctuary On this very important evening, we will be discussing what type of values our children are being exposed to through technology, how much technology is too much, consequences of overexposure, and the ever-present danger of our children encountering explicit material and pornography online. (According to the internet protection service GuardChild, “70% of children 7 to 18 years old have accidentally encountered online pornography, often through a web search while doing homework”.) We will also be sharing some great tips and products that you can use to make your home and electronic devices as safe as possible for your children. Please make plans to attend. After the assembly, parents will visit their child’s classroom. Due to the nature of the material to be discussed, students will not be permitted to attend. After the meeting, the K-4th grade parents will go on to their child's classroom but 5th grade parents will stay to hear about the new STOPit App for anonymous bully reporting that 5th graders will be allowed to have on any personal device that they own.
