Silverdale Takes 2nd, 3rd in Chattanooga Optimist Essay Contest

(L-R) Senior Alexa Slater and Junior Emily Harkleroad recently placed 3rd and 2nd, respectively, in the Scenic Chattanooga Optimist Club Essay Contest. Students from across the Chattanooga area composed essays on the topic, "Lead by Example: Reality or Fiction." They were honored this past Friday at a luncheon at the Chattanoogan. Congratulations to our talented writers!

Guatemala Adventure

Slide1 Interact Sponsored Mission Trip: Partnering with AMG International, our Interact Club will be sponsoring a return trip to Cubulco, Guatemala from June 11-18th, 2016. We invite all high school students (and families) to participate in the distribution of water filters to needy families and also in helping in the construction of a new hospital. The all-inclusive cost is $1,612 for each team member. This takes care of airfare and all travel and food costs. Knowledge of Spanish is helpful, but not required. Please contact Mrs. Nikki Bautista by email if you are interested. NOTE: A $100.00 non-refundable down payment is required by March 1, 2016.


Kennedy Signs Fishing Scholarship with SCAD

[caption id="attachment_2935" align="alignnone" width="1024"]SBA_0467 L-R: Silverdale Fishing Coach Brent Brady, Senior Daniel Kennedy, SCAD Fishing Coach Isaac Payne.[/caption] Congratulations to senior and 2015 Tennessee State High School Fishing Champion Daniel Kennedy for signing to continue his fishing career at the Savannah College of Art and Design's Savannah, GA campus. Daniel is already the second Seahawk fishing team member in its brief existence to sign a college scholarship in this growing school sport. Way to go Daniel!


GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS:

  • Teacher Appreciation Week - March 7-11: PTF is facilitating a week of fun, food, and surprises to show our staff how much we appreciate them. Please send in a cash donation and PTF will take care of purchasing gift cards. You may also send in $5.00 gift cards. Please turn in any donations by February 22nd. If you would like to donate a door prize, that is greatly appreciated as well. Thank you for your help in showing our staff how much they are valued and appreciated.   • IMPORTANT: If you have carpool needs for your children, the best avenue to make this happen is through our Silverdale Parents Facebook page. Create a free personal Facebook account if you haven’t already, then request to join the group. An admin will approve your request ASAP.
  • PTF needs volunteers for the Decorating Committee and the Hospitality Committee. It is a great way to contribute to SBA! Please contact Tracie Sutton (trasut16@aol.com or 423-645-0625) if you are interested in being a PTF Volunteer. Let your gift of service shine!

    **Remember this Friday, February 12th is a 1/2 day - 1-7 periods for 30 minutes each - no activity period. The afternoon is reserved for parent/teacher conferences. Please email teachers to set up a conference.**

  • TODAY, Thursday, February 11th, at 6:30 p.m. we will hold a 10th grade guidance meeting in the Chapel.
  • Senior Talks continue on Tuesday, February 16th with Kinsey Anderson, Emily Skelton, and JD Sanderson.
  • Spirit Day: Next Friday, February 19th, high school will be sponsoring Spirit Day. PTF has graciously offered to give the proceeds of this Spirit Day to benefit the senior trip to Greece. We ask that all high school students contribute at least 1 dozen of the following items listed by grade:
    • 9th Grade - any kind of single serve drinks that are not soda products (water, Powerade, Capri Sun, Kool Aid, V8) OR single serve bags of salty snacks (Cheez-its, Chex Mix, Peanuts)
    • 10th Grade - Homemade items (cookies, brownies, cupcakes)
    • 11th Grade - Any Candy - sour, chewy sells well
    • 12th Grade - Candy bars, donuts (Seniors going on the senior trip should bring ring pops, donuts or homemade baked goods)

ATHLETICS:

  • Congratulations to sophomore Tyler Stephenson and junior Haley Grider for qualifying to represent Silverdale at the 2016 Tennessee State High School Swimming & Diving Championship in Nashville this weekend at the Nashville Aquatic Club! Haley will be swimming in the 200 yard IM event and 100 yard breast stroke. Tyler is swimming 50 yards freestyle and the 100 yard breast stroke.
