How can Christianity be True if Christians are so Hypocritical?

September 11, 2018

Unfortunately, sometimes Christians behave in such a way that people are offended by Christianity.  For example, Christians may claim to believe something and then act in a way that completely contradicts their professed belief.  Obviously, this inconsistency can be off-putting and rightfully labeled as hypocrisy.

The problem arises when non-Christians then transfer that hypocrisy to the truthfulness of Christianity and decide that Christianity must not be true since its adherents do not faithfully adhere to its tenets.  Obviously, that is a false equivalency.  Just because Christians' actions may not line up with their professed beliefs, that does not negate whether or not Jesus rose from the dead.  And THAT is all that matters.  In John 2, Jesus based His claim to be God's Son on one event: His resurrection.  Therefore, if Christ rose from the dead, He really was who He claimed to be and Christianity is true.  If He didn't rise from the dead, Christianity is false.  It really is that simple.  Historical evidence reveals that He did rise from the dead; therefore, Christianity is true, despite how Christians behave.  In fact, that's the beauty of the good news of Christ.  Christ doesn't expect us to be perfect; instead, He saves us in our imperfections and helps us change for the better.  Romans 5:8 - "But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us."
