We are committed to providing the best possible learning environment by using gender-based classes in 6th grade,  supported by brain-based research and training from the Gurian Institute. Studies show that boys and girls learn differently, and separating them allows us to tailor instruction, increase engagement, and create safe, focused classrooms. This approach helps address developmental, structural, and emotional differences during adolescence and aligns with our mission of continuous improvement through educational best practices. Students reintegrate into the coeducation classroom in 7th grade making Silverdale the only school in Chattanooga to offer "the best of both worlds."

We also embrace the Charlotte Mason philosophy, which views every child as a unique image-bearer of God with the capacity for deep thought, growth, and relationship with their Creator. This approach emphasizes a rich, faith-integrated curriculum that nurtures the whole child—academically, spiritually, and physically—through literature, the arts, and outdoor learning. Rooted in Biblical truth, our instruction encourages curiosity, wisdom, and personal responsibility.

All lessons are guided by our four expected student outcomes: Engaged Learners, Servant Leaders, Effective Communicators, and Faithful Disciples. SBA educators are dedicated to seeing each student as more than a grade. They are known, valued, and deeply supported in their development.

Chapel & Discipleship
Each Tuesday, middle school students gather for chapel—a time of worship and biblical teaching from faculty, administrators, and even high school students, whose testimonies often leave a lasting impact. After chapel, students meet in homeroom-based discipleship groups to reflect, discuss, and grow together in their faith. This intentional time is central to our mission of spiritual formation and Christ-centered community.

Biblical Worldview at Every Turn
At SBA, every teacher leads with an unapologetic commitment to Christ and teaches from a strong biblical worldview. Our faculty not only educate but disciple—speaking truth into students’ lives and modeling what it means to live out their faith with courage, compassion, and conviction. In addition to spiritual integration across subjects, students also take a dedicated Bible course each year as part of our curriculum.

Living Out Their Faith Through Service
Each semester, students participate in service projects throughout Chattanooga—putting their faith into action while building friendships and learning the heart of servant leadership. From the Chattanooga Food Bank and Precept Ministries to Hope 4 One and the Chambliss Center, our students are making a difference in their community and learning that it truly is a blessing to be a blessing.
