Writing Center

Equipped toCommunicate

As a college preparatory secondary school, our desire is to see our students become successful not just within our rigorous SBA classes, but also in their higher education coursework. As such, we have instituted collegiate programming, such as our Writing across the Curriculum (WAC) initiative, and student support services, like our Writing Center. Our WAC program provides guidance for our teachers as they instruct in disciplinary writing skills, while our Writing Center aims to instill confidence in our students as they become college-bound writers. Together, this writing-focused program and service support our essential student outcome that our students graduate as effective communicators in not only their collegiate courses and careers, but, more importantly, as witnesses for our Lord Jesus Christ in our world.

“Working in the Writing Center has incredibly impacted my communication and professional skills by giving me opportunities to interact with peers, teachers, and others in the writing community. In addition, I saw great improvement in my writing as I got to help others, which helps me now in my college English classes.”

“My time working in the Writing Center has allowed me to grow so much as both a writer and a leader. By teaching others what I know about writing, my confidence has grown in my own skills. Not only have I become a more effective communicator, but I have also become a more confident leader. I genuinely believe that my writing skills would not be where they are today without the writing center!”

“The Writing Center has enhanced the skills my English classes have established. It’s a place of exploration: one where I’ve found new ideas, new friends, and new confidence in my writing. Whether I’ve come in with a shred of a topic or with a polished draft, for a scholarship or for my chemistry class, Dr. J and her tutors are ready to challenge and improve my writing.”

“The Writing Center equipped me with many real-world skills I use almost daily in college. Silverdale's writing center prepared me extremely well, from learning how to intentionally listen and help others to communicating clearly in a professional setting to providing me the space to cultivate leadership skills."
